FROZEN PIZZA

Frozen pizza is a favorite of children and adults alike.  Mostly, it is quick and easy to make, with plenty of varieties to satisfy almost any food preferences or restraints.  Unfortunately, no matter if you are a meat lover, veggie fan, or love classic pepperoni, some brands might be serving up chemical ingredients that can potentially cause you harm.  Always read the frozen pizza box to avoid potentially harmful ingredients and additives.

Frozen pizza is frequently made with food chemicals that can harm humans.

• BHA - a preservative identified as a possible human carcinogen.
• Potassium bromate - a possible human carcinogen
• Red 40 - a synthetic food dye that can harm children's development and may cause behavioral problems.
• Sodium - frozen pizza contain excessive salt (too much salt increases the risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke).
• TBHQ - a preservative that may harm your immune system.
• Titanium dioxide - a color additive that may damage your DNA.  

These chemical additives, and many others, get into the food we eat through 'legal loopholes' that allow food and chemical companies to decide if they are safe for human consumption.  The Food Chemical Reassessment Act of 2021 identifies 10 chemicals for immediate reassessment, including titanium dioxide, TBHQ, BHA, and potassium bromate.
 

​The Food Chemical Reassessment Act of 2021, introduced by Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), would help improve the food regulatory system.  If enacted, the bill would create an Office of Food Safety Assessment within the FDA to confirm that chemicals that previously entered the food supply chain through legal loopholes, or were reviewed by the FDA decades ago, are still safe to eat.
