Protecting Your Assets During A Global Pandemic

By Pierre Mouchette | Real Property Experts LLC

This global pandemic (COVID-19) has proven that there has never been a more crucial time to protect your assets and verifying that your estate is current.  Yes, the current threat of the coronavirus pandemic has posed a risk to people’s health and mortality, particularly in the mature age group.  While nobody likes to think of their own mortality, planning ensures that if the worst were to happen, your loved ones will be protected.

Using the pandemic as motivation to begin planning your Will, or re-visiting it, can help protect your family and loved ones from conflict or confusion later.  It will also ensure that your estate will be passed on the way that you want.  To effectively and legally accomplish this, retain the services of a Trust and Estate Planning Attorney.

Protecting Your Assets
Without Will and Estate Planning, your family will not have control over your assets if you were to pass naturally or as a victim of the pandemic.  Leaving your assets to beneficiaries in your will ensures that those who matter to you are protected when you are gone.  Having your Estate planned by a specialist affords many additional benefits.

Key Takeaways
Having a Will, and Estate Plan allows you to:
  1. Choose who will inherit what, among your assets.
  2. Name your children’s guardian in the event of your early demise.
  3. Reduce taxes due on what you leave behind.
  4. Omit family strife and ugly legal battles.
Note:  the above items are a simplified (basic) description of what you can accomplish using the proper documentation of a Will and Estate Plan.

The Bottom Line
While you have the capacity to do so, create, finalize, or update your Will and Estate Planning documents now, which can save your loved ones from financial and emotional hardship later.  Meeting with an estate planner NOW, can provide you peace of mind should the worst-case scenario happen during these times of uncertainty.

P.S.  Reading our booklet ‘Protecting Your Assets in The Pandemic Age’ will give you more information on How to Safeguard Your Assets from Creditors, the Government, and other Predators.  Use all information acquired, to solicit response for your personalized estate plan when you meet with your professional.

P.P.S.  Estate planning was once considered something that only high net worth individuals needed.  That has changed!  Nowadays, many middle-class families need to plan for when something happens to the family’s breadwinner or breadwinners.
