The Americans With Disabilities Act provides civil rights protection to individuals with disabilities and guaranteed them equal opportunity in public accommodations, employment, transportation, state and local government services, and telecommunications. The law applies to all companies so business owners must be aware of its provisions and how they affect their companies' employment practices, facilities, and products. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is the federal agency charged with enforcing the various aspects of the ADA.
The ADA was signed into law on July 26, 1990 by President George H. Bush and has been revised several times.
